What brought you to Normandale?
I chose Normandale because it has such a strong reputation for its nursing program, and it felt like a place where I could really grow academically while still feeling supported. I also liked that it’s a community college with smaller class sizes, which makes it easier to connect with instructors and classmates. I’ve actually experienced both environments. I started at a larger state college where classes had around 100–150 students, and it just wasn’t the right fit for me. At Normandale, the smaller classes make it easier to ask questions, and build relationships with instructors. For me, it felt like the right place to start my nursing journey and build a strong foundation before moving forward in my career
What do you think makes Normandale unique?
What makes Normandale unique to me is the sense of community. The instructors really care about student success, and there are so many resources available if you need help. Also, the campus cupboard is an amazing resource, and I have told all my friends at Normandale about it. It doesn’t feel like you’re just another number in a classroom. There’s also a lot of diversity among the students, which brings different perspectives into discussions and makes the learning environment more meaningful.
What are your plans after Normandale?
After Normandale, I plan to continue working as a registered nurse and eventually pursue advanced education in nursing. My long-term goal is to continue growing in the healthcare field and expand my knowledge so I can provide the best possible care to my future patients.
What about Normandale's nursing program sets it apart from other colleges?
The instructors bring so much real healthcare experience into the classroom, which helps connect what we learn in textbooks to actual patient care. The staff and teachers are also incredible. They really push us outside of our comfort zones because they genuinely want us to succeed.
The support system within the program makes a huge difference. We have opportunities to share our ideas and concerns directly with instructors, and they are very open to listening. What surprised me the most is how willing they are to adjust things if something isn’t serving the students well. I had never heard of a program where the curriculum could actually change if students’ voices were strong enough. It really makes you feel heard and valued, never dismissed.
Have any instructors made a meaningful impact on you during your nursing journey?
Yes, they absolutely have. The nursing staff is amazing and they really want the best for us.
What does receiving financial scholarships mean to you, and how will it impact your education or future goals?
Receiving financial scholarships means a lot to me. Nursing school is demanding, both academically and financially, so scholarships help relieve some of that stress. It allows me to focus more on my studies rather than worrying as much about financial barriers. It also motivates me to keep working hard and reminds me that there are people who believe in students like me and want to support our success.
